Reducing animal suffering in Global South with Sinergia Animal

Corporate campaigns and investigations in Latin America and Southeast Asia, regions where farmed animal advocacy is barely funded.

Almost all farmed animal advocacy money is spent in North America and Europe, while much of the growth in intensive animal farming is happening elsewhere. That mismatch is the reason this program exists: the same campaign costs far less to run in Brazil or Indonesia, and faces far less competition for the win.

Where and how it works

The program operates in Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, Indonesia, Peru and Thailand, staffed by people from those countries rather than by an office abroad. Its two main tools are undercover investigations, several of which showed domestic audiences the inside of a factory farm for the first time, and negotiation with major food companies for commitments on cage confinement and other practices. More than fifty such commitments were secured in its first four years, covering multiple brands and countries.

Reducing demand as well

A second strand works with institutions such as schools, hospitals and company canteens to replace animal products with plant-based options at scale, which has already shifted well over a million meals. The organization is Sinergia Animal.

Supporting the program from Canada

Gifts through Rethink Charity come with an official Canadian donation receipt. Because campaign costs in these regions are low, a Canadian dollar buys more corporate change here than almost anywhere else.
