Farm investigations with Animal Equality International

Industrial animal agriculture is difficult to photograph and largely exempt from public scrutiny, which is not an accident. Investigations exist to remove that protection: to document what standard practice actually looks like and put it in front of the public, prosecutors and legislators.

Investigators have entered hundreds of farms and slaughterhouses across three continents. The footage is not an end in itself. Investigations inside rabbit farms in Italy and Spain fed a European push to end cage confinement for rabbits; work inside Mexican slaughterhouses prompted legislative initiatives in that country's senate; footage from British and Spanish pig farms led to criminal prosecutions of workers for animal cruelty.

Investigations sit alongside corporate negotiation, public education aimed at shifting food choices, and direct engagement with policy-makers. The combination matters: evidence creates the pressure, and the other programs convert that pressure into a policy change that outlasts the news cycle. The organization is Animal Equality International, which works across Europe, the Americas and India.
