Our Fiscal Sponsorship Model
Our dedicated and experienced team will ensure that your project starts from a strong position.
There are different types of fiscal sponsorship. Rethink Charity primarily provides Model C sponsorship, which is a grantor-grantee relationship: Rethink Charity (the grantor) disburses earmarked donations to each project it fiscally sponsors (the grantee).
It’s important for potential grantees (“sponsees”) to understand where responsibilities lie in Model C fiscal sponsorship. In the table below, we outline responsibilities of the fiscal sponsor and fiscal sponsee within a Model C arrangement:
Model C arrangements, outlined above, comprise the vast majority of fiscal sponsorship relationships at Rethink Charity. In exceptional cases, Rethink Charity may be able to enter a Model B arrangement. Briefly, here’s what a Model B sponsorship involves:
In Model B, the entire project is conducted by an independent contractor who the sponsor engages to produce results.
In Model B, the sponsor retains the independent contractor with donated funds, and the contractor accounts for their own income and pays for their own expenses.
Say you’re a freelance coach, project manager, or consultant in the effective altruism community. Model B sponsorship could be a great fit for you.
Let us know on our inquiry form if you believe a Model B arrangement would suit your project needs.
